Hyderabad - First impression

I always wonder how the people who visit Hyderabad feel about this city. What is the impression that it has on visitors? I have been scrutinizing people and what I feel is something that I felt like writing here. Ok, so you will say, I have been very observant. Well.... Maybe that’s one quality that is attained when one travels alone and has no other way of spending time.

To start with; Just Yesterday, I saw a person (obviously not a Hyderabadi, had his luggage with him). By mistake, he had got down at the wrong place. And since, he did not know how far he was from his place, the most obvious choice for him was to take an auto. The Auto man asked him to pay Rs 40 for a distance that could be covered in 2 minutes and that would take the minimum charge of Rs 8. On the same day, while coming back, saw this lady who was new to Hyderabad and was on her way to the railway station. Since she did not know how to reach there, she asked a person sitting beside her the route and know what all the people around were so keen to help her. Would say, this happened not because she was a lady since even ladies were happy and eager to help her. There still exist people who thrive to help people and feel contented to do it.

To cite one more eg., I remember, some days back, in Charminar, I was buying bangles (Rs. 10 per dozen) and there came this foreign couple. The lady asked the rate for the bangles and when he said its Rs 10, she thought it to be the cost of one bangle and said “I will pay only Rs 100 for 12 bangles; and not 120”. Poor shopkeeper, he did not know what to say and he just shook his head. The lady was so happy that she had made a profit of Rs 20. I don’t know if he did right by selling the bangles at that price but still I could see the fear, guilt and innocence on his face that comes when a person feels that he is doing something wrong.

I would say every city has its own qualities. Judging a city because of some people is not always right. Even Mumbai, that is considered one of the fastest city, where no one has time for each other, has shown in the last few days, that there are people who still have the humane side to them, who are still not lost completely in this big bad world, who still care about others. They have been striving day in and day out to help the people who they have never met before, the people who are unknown to them.

Believe me, Hyderabad is one of the coolest and a great place to be in.
